Best entry level laptop?!?! ACER Aspire 5 (2023 Intel Model) Review

Specs: 0:45 - Our review unit was equipped with Intel's i3 11th Gen CPU, 8GB of DDR4 RAM (upgradable), and a 512GB NVMe (upgradable). Plenty of horsepower to knock out any productivity task.

LCD: 02:20 - 15.6" FHD, Non Touch, IPS display. It's bright, colorful, and crisp. We're really impressed with the panel in the ACER Aspire 5. For a computer priced where it is, this is one area they didn't skimp. In fact, the only thing missing for some people would be the touch option. Otherwise it's a much better panel than found in some cheaper Dell's and Lenovo's.

Keyboard and Trackpad: 03:00 - Overall the trackpad is OK. While not the biggest in the industry, it's functional and works well enough. It ghosts a little for our taste, too, whereas it doesn't quite feel as precise as other trackpads from Lenovo. That said the trackpad isn't bad enough to write this machine off. Same can be said about the keyboard! It's no frills, and while it has good tactile response, it's a little cheap feeling. It should have a backlight, and most ACER Aspire's do have them, but our test model didn't have a backlit keyboard.

I/O: 04:12 - 1x USB-A, 2x USB-A Super Speed, 1x USB-C (non-charging), HDMI 2.0, Gigabit Ethernet, and Audio Jack. Sure it's missing USB-C charging and Thunderbolt 4, but most computers in this price bracket are. The ports on this machine are overall thoughtful and useful.

Features: 05:15 - Wifi 6, Bluetooth, a good webcam, and a thin and light profile gives you all that you need on this machine. The only things lacking would be a Windows Hello compatible finger print scanner or camera and maybe a backlight on the keyboard (though most have this).

Mobility: 06:30 - Thin, light, and built well. Battery life isn't great though at only about 5 hours or so practically speaking. Get the AMD version for better battery life.

Speakers: 07:30 - Better than a lot of computers in this price bracket and they don't advertise some stupid name brand like Harmon Kardon. They get loud with good highs and mids, and don't distort too bad, but suffer in the lows area with a lack of character. Ultimately audiophiles will want headphones, but for those need quick audio feedback, they're perfect.

Who is it for? Photographers on a budget needing a computer to do editing on site. Podcasters on a budget. Non Profits. Office work. Those needing a good quality yet cheap machine to "do the trick".

Who is it not for? It's not for heavy gamers, or big video editors.
