Passing abandoned buildings in search of food and water, Bannon collected empty cans and boxes, but all he found were piercing screams and a permanent threat from them, demons descending from the skies. In his wandering trying to leave the dome area, the hero must test his conscience and redeem himself in the face of ghosts from his past. On the way, a strange guide from the underworld seems to be helping him. Set in a biblical-post-apocalyptic setting, Into the Abyss takes genre cinema in a transcendental direction, transforming a dystopian escape film into an allegory of human light and shadow, and their eternal struggle to be free from themselves.
