Lethbridge Mayor Blaine Hyggen brought forward an official business motion to City Council on Tuesday asking members to vote to have him send letters to the province and federal government asking for funding for a functional planning study and a preliminary design for a proposed third bridge for our city.

It would be located across the Chinook Trail River Crossing. Council voted 5-3 in favour of Hyggen’s motion.

During the 2021 Lethbridge municipal election, just over 60 per cent of voters said they would like our city to construct a third bridge before 2030.

Last year, the City of Lethbridge said that the proposed cost for a bridge along the Chinook Trail River Crossing could have an estimated value of $190 million.
