My client brought his work truck with a grinding rear axle. I had no idea what it was, until I started pulling everything apart. HEAT WELDED bearings and the axle wouldn't come out. Luckily for me, I have a Jeep with a 12k lb winch sitting on front! Using just enough pressure to hold it while I banged on it til it came out, and the removal was a lot easier!
