Welcome to another amazing episode of Historical Events That Occurred Today in History! Today, February 21st, we’re celebrating some incredible moments in history.
First, we’ll be looking back to 1431, when the courageous Joan of Arc underwent her first questioning during a trial for the alleged crime of heresy. Joan of Arc was a brave young woman who refused to be intimidated by the powerful forces that sought to silence her. She refused to recant her beliefs and was burned at the stake at the age of 19. Her courage and resilience will continue to be an inspiration for us all.
The US Congress also made a huge mark on this day in 1782, when they launched the US Mint. This move proved to be a milestone in American history as it allowed the United States to officially mint its own currency.
Next, we’ll look back to 1895 when North Carolina legislators showed their respect for the great Frederick Douglass by taking an early adjournment. The legislators adjourned in order to attend an event honoring Douglass and his fight for racial justice.
Fast-forward to 1922, the start of a new epoch with the initiation of a convention of Sinn Féin by Irish Nationalist Eamon De Valera. This convention marked the beginning of a movement for Irish independence that would eventually lead to the formation of the Irish Free State.
Finally, we end on a somber note, as February 21st 1965 saw the assassination of civil rights leader and Muslim minister Malcolm X. Though Malcolm X often faced criticism in his life, his legacy of justice and equality will never be forgotten.
Today, we honor all of these incredible historical events that occurred on this date. From Joan of Arc to Malcolm X, these events remind us to never give up on our dreams and to continue to fight for what is right.
