Horror Night In The Henhouse ~ The Barbers Revenge

At night, after the chickens were sleeping peacefully in their beds, horror stuck in the form of the three of us armed with scissors and flashlights.

The chickens have discovered our garden and found that it tastes quite nice. Now we cant keep them out of the garden anymore at all.

Chickens can quickly destroy a garden if you let them in.

So after the birds were in bed sleeping happily, we all went in to clip their wings.

To hear it from the chickens side, you would think something terrible was going on.

It took us quite a while to cut all the wings of our birds. We have so many chickens now.

Chris brought me a bird while I clipped the wing. And Melanie held the camera to record the show for you.

To clip a chicken's wings, you simply cut one wing just less than halfway down. If you cut properly to the chicken it is just like a haircut for us. But if you cut too deep, you can hit blood and it may hurt the bird.

Also, if you only clip one wing then the birds cannot get their balance and they cant fly anymore. Sometimes if you clip both wings the birds can learn to overcome the loss of feathers and fly again.
