Truck Work ~ Greenhouse Work ~ Pallet Wood Coffee Coasters

I started the day at The Off Grid Project by cutting blanks out of pallet wood to make coffee coasters. I worked in the greenhouse a bit today. Later in the evening I worked on the truck.

I am cutting blanks for Melanie to make The Off Grid Project coffee coasters. The coffee coasters will be made of all recycled pallet wood.

I used my cordless Ryobi circular saw to cut the pallet wood off the pallets. Then I used the chop saw to cut the boards into 3.5 inch square blanks, which are the average size of coffee coasters.

Next I got out the belt sander in an attempt at smoothing off the wood pieces but the sander has 120 grit sand paper in it and this is way too fine for what I need. I have to get some course sand paper in order to continue.

We had a church activity so we were gone most of the day. When we got back I worked in the greenhouse some more. I put plastic lining in the new barn wood raised bed boxes. Then Melanie, Chris and I all hauled soil from the forest in to fill the raised bed boxes.

I also put a light into the greenhouse which is now connected to the off grid solar battery bank. This light comes with the Harbor Freight solar panel kit and solar panel charge controller.

It plugs right in to the charge controller. I have two of these lights and the solar charge controller has two light sockets. When the light warms up it gets nice and bright in the greenhouse. I figure that with two of these lights the greenhouse will be bright enough to work in comfortably.

Later in the evening I was working on the truck. I want to get a working cigarette lighter socket in the truck. The previous owner had caused the original lighter socket to no longer work. It was probably during the installation of the alarm system and remote starter that is deeply integrated into the trucks electrical system.

I eventually got the aging alarm system out of the truck and used the hot power line to connect a new cigarette lighter outlet for us to use. We can now charge our cell phones and other devices while on the road.
