THEY LIVE ~ Winter Care Of Homestead Animals

I have received many questions about how we are caring for our animals in the winter months. I have even received many threats and personal messages from people demanding that I show the animals.

Rumors have been flying that they were taken away, died or were sold off. Many people were starting to believe the rumors.

Well, as usual I treat those troll rumors the same way. I give them enough rope to hang themselves and wait a while till they make total fools of themselves. Then I show the truth. This happens again and again.

We have trouble in the cold days keeping fresh water available for our animals so we are always swapping out containers of partly freezing water with fresh water as needed. The cold water goes inside to warm up. At night all the water comes inside to keep it from freezing.

All of our animals have fresh bedding and good food.

They all have sufficient shelter to keep the warm and alive.

Goats and chickens are farm animals. They are outdoor animals. If you seal off and insulate their shelter then they will die. They all poop in their own beds. This gives off poisonous ammonia and will kill an animal in a sealed shelter.

So you must have some drafts to keep it clean and fresh. Yes you clean the bedding often as well. But the first night they will poop in their beds again. This cannot be avoided.

Our animals are fat and healthy and you can see for yourselves.

Our goats are loving animals and are actually smiling.
