Road Trip Brought Back Something Big For The Homestead

We went on a road trip to visit some viewers from YouTube. Melanie harvested a bunch of garden vegetables to take with us as a gift.

One of my viewers on YouTube and I have been talking for a while now about a possible visit to see him and his family. I was saving up for the trip now for a few weeks.

Finally the day of the trip came around. Melanie harvested a bunch of our organic garden vegetables. We grew a lot of vegetables this year in our own organic garden. We used no chemicals or artificial fertilizers. Only dirt, compost and mulch.

Our garden has been feeding us the past month almost entirely. We have not been grocery shopping much at all. Just for things that we cannot produce on our own land these days. We hope to become fully self sufficient soon. That would mean producing our own sugar, oils, and everything else that we need to feed ourselves through the entire year.

We took our camping gear with us because our new friends were moving house and we were staying in an RV.

I loaded up the truck and put the ramp in the back so that we can load up the surprise that we were bringing back to the off grid homestead.

We met our new friends and we all bonded immediately. We all get along very well and have the same interests. We will certainly be getting together more in the future. They are about 6.5 hours away from us but I believe that we will be visiting each other in the future.

When we arrived we got a tour of the place and then went out back to see the quad. This is a Suzuki 500 which has been sitting untouched for about three years now. We did not expect it to run without a carburetor cleanup but when he told me it weighed 700 pounds I decided we should try it and see if we can drive it into the truck.

We put some gas in and connected jumper cables. It turned and turned for a while but nothing happened. Then it sputtered once. Then twice. Then three times. Soon it was running and purring nicely. None of us could believe this after sitting so long. Fortunately there had been no gas in the machine all this time so it did not gum up.

We drove it onto the truck and tied it down well. He also gave me a head gasket to put on. It had overheated before and the mechanics did not fix the cause but only put on a head gasket. So it overheated again. We need to figure out why it overheats and fix it.

We all settled in for a late night of visiting and pizza. We all had a very good time.

In the morning we said our good byes. We will be going back though in the future.

Melanie and I headed off for the long drive home with new memories and the ATV in the back of the truck.

I think that Melanie was more excited than I am about the quad. She is dreaming of driving it around the property. I took her out on gokarts a couple times. The first time we rode a double cart and I drove. The second time she drove the double cart and loved it.

It took us another 6.5 hours to get home and then we had church in the evening so we had dinner, took care of the animals and left.

That was our trip.
