Helping Friends And Homestead Life

We had an interesting start to our day. I was helping a friend out for most of the day. Later it was back to life on the off grid homestead.

In the morning some chickens had escaped from the new pen. I guess they are using the tree stumps to launch off of and then getting to the top of the door frame. Then they can fly out to freedom.

Melanie was milking the goats while I was trying to herd the birds back into the pen. When Melanie finished her job she joined me getting the birds in. But she forgot the goat which then started to graze on anything it could find. Fortunately there were some tree leaves available so she did not go far. But we had a laugh.

The hurricane was making it cloudy and dark overhead but we did not get anything else from it.

We had to leave to take a friend to a far away specialist. It took us half the day by the time we got home again.

Later we settled into life at the off grid homestead.

A package arrived today containing a motion sensing security light with a solar panel. This is going to be very useful here at the homestead. It is going right on the front of the porch. We have no idea who sent it but thank you very much.

In the evening we worked in the garden a bit and harvested a mess of green beans and some fresh potatoes. We are eating quite a bit from our own garden these days and it reduces our food bill considerably.

Our dinner consisted of fish which we caught ourselves and a salad on the side. This was fully the fruit of our own labors. And this is a very good feeling.
