Off Grid Homestead Family Hard At Work

Melanie is beautifying the homestead. Chris and I are working on the fire wood supply for the off grid tiny home. And much more going on at the homestead today.

Melanie has fresh cut flowers in the off grid tiny house all the time now from our own flower garden. Thank you to all who sent us seeds this year.

We hope to be able to plant a bit of everything next year. We are going to expand the garden out into the meadow and have winding walkways with benches throughout.

I also put up the wall hanging we recently received as a gift. It is in the living room right over the shelf now. Again, thank you.

I am winterizing the porch in front of the tiny house on wheels. The porch will act as a buffer from the cold outside when we open the tiny house door. I am not going to insulate it but I will be sealing off any gaps where the wind can blow through.

I lost the argument with Melanie about who was going to bake cookies. I have an old recipe I made up back in Germany for some granola survival cookies. I had made some cookies which were healthy, all natural and packed full of nutrients. They were meant to be dried out and then taken on trips and used for survival. They became popular among my friends and I ended up baking them all the time.

I told Melanie about the recipe and we argued about who would bake them. I lost the argument and ended up baking cookies today. Watch for the full video and recipe on that coming soon.

While I was in the house baking cookies, Chris was out working on the wood pile. Chris hauled away and stacked all the fire wood that I had split the previous day. He did it all in an hour. I cannot believe that. Especially considering he has been sick for a while now and is just now recovering.

Melanie and I received some packages in the mail. We got three survival bracelets and three tactical ink pens. I figure that since there are three of them, we all get one, Melanie, Chris and myself. I will check them out online and do a video review on them. I will pass them out tomorrow to everyone after I know the specs and details on them.

I took at a look at our solar power battery bank. I do not really watch them much anymore since we are not at all worried about our power usage these days with the Trojan batteries.

The only power we really use these days is our two laptops on and off throughout the day. Those are the big power users. Then we charge our cell phones, cameras and other small electronic devices. We use a 15 watt LED light in the dining room for dinner at night. And Melanie uses 3 watts of power in the kitchen overhead LED lighting. We also charge up Ryobi battery packs just about every single day. Those tools really get a workout here on the homestead.

But we are not really working the battery bank right now. We are taking it easy and being careful about our power usage. Eventually when we get another good MPPT solar charge controller and get some trees knocked down to allow more sunlight in the panels we will have a lot more power.
