Dropping Trees & Breaking Stuff ~ Cleaning Jeep & More

Chris and I continue to clear out the woods to make space for the chickens, goats and work shop. I am cleaning up the Jeep to use for survival since Melanie took me survival camper for her craft shop.

In the morning when Melanie was milking the goats, one goat jumped right through the top of the chicken coop and got inside in an attempt to eat the chicken feed. This one goat is determined to eat chicken food and not goat food. But this can be deadly for her so we have to prevent her from getting the food.

It took all three of us to get the goat out of the chicken coop and then patch up the mess. But we got it.

I had originally purchased the Jeep to use as a survival vehicle for off roading with my friend. This friend then turned against me after I bought a Jeep to ride with him on the trails. Most Jeep owners love to get together with other Jeep owners but this friend of mine was not such a man and is now my enemy sadly.

So I had this Jeep sitting here about a year now and never did anything with it. I have decided to clean it up and get it running to use for my survival gear. Melanie has taken over the survival truck camper as her own office and craft shop. So I need a place for my survival gear and here is the Jeep just waiting.

Chris and I cleaned it out in order to prepare it for use. The mice have made a horrible mess of it and it need a thorough cleaning and bleach. Then I need to patch any access that the mice have into the inside of the Jeep. Then I can finally put in storage drawers and cabinets and put my survival gear inside the Jeep. This will take some time though.

I wanted to wash and bleach the Jeep on this day but did not get to it because I was cutting trees like never before.

We found a boat on the side of the road for free the other day and brought it home. It is a fishing boat with raised seats that sit on slider rails on top of the boat. I needs a bit of work but it was free. This boat is great for when we have guests over and we all want to head out into the lake together.

Chris and I are still cutting wood out in the side of the forest by the edge of the meadow. We want to put in a large chicken run for the birds to free range. Plus we are going to expand the goat area one day. And we need more space for a proper work shop.

And most important of all is that the trees are blocking the sun from the animals and the solar panels. So they must go.

We had great success with all the trees so far. All but one had fallen perfectly where we wanted it. The only one that did not drop well was hit by a gust of wind and went over backwards. Fortunately we were able to get it cut up with no problems.

But one tree on this day was hit by the wind as it was dropping and suddenly turned over sideways and hit our storage tent. It clipped the front edge and smashed up the framing on that side. Fortunately we have spare parts for this tent from the one that was damaged in the spring winds.

I really love this Husqvarna chainsaw. This thing is so comfortable to use I cant believe the difference compared to cheaper saws I have always used.

I have always wondered how a person can go out all day cutting wood. I was always exhausted after an hour of cutting with a cheap saw. But with the Husqvarna I can cut all day. And I did just that today.

With the exception of breaks for water, I cut wood all day long. It was 91 degrees out today but the humidity was low so I was able to work through.

Recently the humidity has been very high. Well, all summer it has been quite high. So the going has been very slow. But today I was able to work right through with breaks only when the chainsaw ran out of gas. Chris would sharpen the chain and fill up the gas and oil while I rested in the cool air inside the off grid tiny house on wheels.

When the saw was ready I would come back out and get to work again. This saw is also very efficient on fuel. It cuts a long time on a tank of gas.

Melanie was washing clothes on the off grid homestead today using the normal washing machine. Generally if she does not have too many clothes to wash she will use a bucket and plunger made for the job. But if we get too many clothes piled up then she will use the normal washing machine.
