Off Grid Homestead Update After 1 Week Away

Melanie and I are back on the homestead after a week with my family. Here are the updates of things as we found them. There is some good news and some bad.

Our freezer was off because the power inverter blew out when we were gone but fortunately the contents are still frozen. It was cold when we were away and this helped out a lot.

The off grid tiny house battery bank was in sorry shape though with 12.5 volts when we returned and that was with no load.

The next evening the batteries were sitting at 12.3 volts after using just a few LED lights inside the tiny house on wheels.

The greenhouse is very bad. Although it never got cold in there and the plants did not suffer from freezing. But there was something in there which ate up half our plants. All of our peas and beans were eaten by a mouse. Literally every single one.

Half of our potted plants are eaten up entirely. There is not a trace of most of the plants at all in the pots. Just dirt.

There is feces all over the place so something was living it up in there at our expense.

We are going to have to start all over again now.

Chris opened his gift of gloves and a hat. He is very thankful to have these.

Melanie and I received a gift of a thermometer for the freezer which I promptly installed in the freezer. This has an alarm which sounds if the temperature gets too high. This is good to have so that now we can keep and eye on the food status without opening the freezer to look.

The thermometer also has an indoor temperature reading which will tell me the status of the temperature in the off grid water and battery shed.
