Heating Off Grid Wood Shed ~ Quad Work & More

Cold winter weather is on the way in the next few days so I cut a hole in the off grid tiny house on wheels and put a fan from the house to the water shed. We are working on the quad to find the water leak so that we can put it into use on the off grid homestead.

The sun was shining and the solar battery bank for the tiny house was doing well. But it was quite cold outside. It never got above 33 degrees during the day.

So I marked out where a 120 mm computer fan will go through the wall from the tiny house bathroom to the water and battery shed.

The fan will be installed under the tiny home bathroom sink by the cat litter box. The open cat hole which leads into the cat litter area will allow fresh air into the space under the sink and the fan will blow this air out into the water and battery shed. This will hopefully help keep the shed from freezing in the winter.

I drilled a series of holes around the fan opening. Then I cut the hole with my Ryobi reciprocating saw. Next I had to drill through into the bathroom so that I could cut out the hole in there as well.

Inside the bathroom I crawled under the sink and used my Ryobi to cut that hole out too.

Then I pressed away the insulation to make a tunnel through the tiny house wall for the air to flow.

The wind was blowing cold air right through the hole and into the tiny house at this time.

Back in the water and battery shed I mounted the fan and wired it up to the water pump wiring. This is a fused line so it will be safe this way.

Now I have 64 degree warm air from the kitchen blowing through the cat litter area and into the shed. This keeps the cat litter smells out of the tiny house and helps warm up the shed at the same time.

Outside Chris was pulling the skirting off the Suzuki Quadrunner 500 to see where the water leaks are. We found that the radiator is leaking in multiple places it seems. We have to get the machine running to find out.

But with the blown head gasket the quad does not want to run in this very cold weather. And we have to find any leaks before we spend any money on this thing.

Later in the battery and water shed again I finished modifying the M45 military tent stove to be more efficient and less dangerous to burn.

I will show you the conversion in a separate video which is on the way.

Testing out the M45 US Army tent stove later in my off grid battery shed turned out very well. I got a good bed of coals in there and then filled it up to the top with scrap pallet wood. I am now able to slow down the burn and control the temperature somewhat on the old tent stove.

I got the temperature in the water shed up from about 30 degrees to about 60 degrees in a couple hours. My main goal is to warm up the off grid rain water storage tanks in the shed which will retain heat through the night when the fire goes out.

I still have to finish insulating both the greenhouse and the water shed ceilings before the extreme cold sets in or I will lose everything.
