Big MEH - Famicom & Master System Games From Video Games Monthly
In this episode, we take a look at our February 2023 games that we received from video games monthly to see if we got value for what we paid and check out the conditions of the games.
I admit that I'm fortunate to have great retro video game stores in my area. Between Live Action Games and Disc Replay, I know I can go into those stores and find good retro video games at a reasonable price. But what do you do if you don't have access to such stores? That's where Video Games Monthly comes into play, a tiered subscription service that allows you to receive anywhere from 3-to-10 retro video games delivered to your door each and every month. Best of all, you get to keep the games you receive.
We subscribe to the $35 per month 3Up Pak, and for February 2023 we selected to receive games from the Famicom and the Sega Master System. Moving forward we're adding the PlayStation to our wish list, that's one of the fun things about the service, you can mix and match What systems you want games for at any point in time.
What we got:
System: Nintendo Famicom
Title: Skykid
Value: $8
System: Nintendo Famicom
Title: Hello Kity Sanrio Carnival $10
Value: $10
System: Sega Master System
Title: Maze Hunter 3-D
Value: $13
System: Sega Master System
Title: Rescue Mission
Value: $16
Total Value: $47
What do we think:
We definitely got value for what we paid, between both the Famicom and the Master System we definitely got about 12 more dollars in game value compared to what we paid. However, even though these games are worth $47, I may never play them. Skykid is terrible, I don't have a CRT so the Master System Games are unplayable, and Sanrio Carnival is something I may try, but probably not. As such for me, this month's box was pretty disappointing.
We do need to discuss the cleanliness of the games because these are definitely two different stories here. The Master System Games were beautiful, the pins were in great shape, and the labels look terrific, overall I thought these two games looked amazing. The Famicom games, however, man these were in rough shape. I had to apply Bright Boy multiple times to the hello Kitty game Is this game was absolutely fouled up. I know that it is hard to get inside a Famicon game to clean, however, even just using a 1Up cleaning card helped remove a lot of the gunk and dirt off of them. Both games played fine, I just really would have preferred to have these a little bit cleaner before I got them.
What do you think about the games that we received this month? Are these games you would play? Are these games you would want? Let us know down in the comments.
