Melanie and I have this old dresser that we scrapped out and turned the pieces into a desk and shelves for her craft area. Read the full article here: http://www.thedoityourselfworld.com/articles/article.php?id=11397

We had picked up this old dresser in the summer on the side of the road for free. But it was too large for our off grid tiny house loft. And it was badly damaged. But at the time it was all we had.

Now that I recently built a storage cabinet for our clothes using recycled pallet wood we can demolish this old dresser and put the wood to good use.

Melanie and I worked together to break down the old dresser into its individual boards. Melanie pulled out all the nails which we are also keeping for later projects.

Nothing will be wasted from this old dresser.

I then cut the top board to make a desk for Melanie to work on. I used some scrap 2x4 lumber to make a frame for the back side.

Then for the front I used some of the dresser lumber to make angled brackets. This gives the desk a good and solid build. Melanie can lean on the desk with no fear of breaking it.

I then put up a shelf using some of the dresser wood. This went above the desk.

Melanie used a new pink tool kit that my Dad gave her. She is so happy to have her own tools now.

When the desk and shelves were done Melanie immediately moved her things into her new office area. She is so happy now.

Earlier in the morning I got water from the creek. We use only fresh mountain creek water in our off grid tiny house for drinking.

Back at the tiny house we filter the water to be extra safe.
