Melanie Canning ~ More Rain Water Collection ~ Greenhouse Work

Melanie is still canning the last of our garden harvest for this fall. I worked on increasing our rain water collection capacity and worked in the greenhouse for a while.

While Melanie was inside the off grid tiny house I was outside working on the greenhouse. Melanie is currently canning our last garden harvest. She has been putting away pumpkin and tomatoes from our garden. We had a bunch left over and have to can everything before it all goes bad.

I finished the greenhouse fascia boards and put on a piece of trim which should hold down the greenhouse PCV roofing better during storms. And it looks pretty good too now.

In the greenhouse I sprayed some rubberized undercoating on the ceiling sheet metal. I hope this will slow down any rust or rot from humidity and help prolong the life of the greenhouse roof. Half the greenhouse is insulated to protect the plants during the harsh cold winter months. I hope to grow plants all winter and provide some food for our family.

I finished insulating the back and side walls of the off grid winter greenhouse. I thought of putting the sheet metal from a swimming pool that I found on the road for free. This will make a good moisture resistant barrier and free paneling for the greenhouse. It will not be visible in the end because I am going to put up radiant barrier to reflect heat back into the greenhouse. This will retain heat in the off grid greenhouse even better during the winter months.

I managed to get some of the sheet metal cut and on the side wall before I had to leave for a while. I promised to take Melanie fishing for some food.

When we got back Chris helped me haul some more sheet metal over to the greenhouse. I had cut the swimming pool liner with tin snips to fit the greenhouse walls. Then Chris helped me hold the metal sheets up on the wall as I nailed them in place.

We ran out of time and daylight so we did not get the last piece in place before we had to go in for the night.
