Working On Our Off Grid Winter Greenhouse

I am trying to finish the sheathing and get the greenhouse finished before the deep freeze in a couple days. We want to save some of our garden vegetables through the entire winter.

I am putting sheathing on the entire greenhouse. Even on the little pieces around and between the windows. This will give it a finished look and close up any gaps between the boards.

After sheathing I will be putting on tar paper and then the windows.

For siding I am going to use whole pallet boards in a horizontal pattern.

I take a minute to explain why I have insulated the north half of my winter greenhouse.

In Northern climates we get very harsh and cold winters. The temperatures drop way below freezing around here and all the plants die.

We want to provide some fresh vegetables through the entire year. Having an insulated and heated greenhouse will help us keep the plants alive all year. Normally we have only half a year of growing season and then half a year of death all around.

The greenhouse will not only allow us to grow some fresh vegetables through the winter but it will also give us a huge head start for growing our garden in the spring. We can grow our own seedlings in the greenhouse two months earlier. This will give us an extended growing season and larger harvest next year.
