Nearly Finished Framing Off Grid Greenhouse

Marc came back to help with framing our off grid greenhouse. We are building the greenhouse using nearly all recycled materials and reducing the cost to a mere fraction of new materials.

We got an early start to the day and got right to work building the greenhouse. With all our tools already set up we can get right to work in minutes after Marc arrives. We also work well together and we found out how to mesh on the job which also saves time.

I am basically assisting Marc with the construction of our off grid greenhouse. I have the vision and ideas but he is making it a reality. Since he is the framer I am just helping him to build my dream greenhouse.

The off grid greenhouse will help us keep growing fresh food all winter. Living in a Northern climate everything dies during the harsh cold winter. I hope to change that by using a combination of the sun, thermal mass, solar heating and a wood stove.

I picked up all the windows this spring for free and set them aside for this project. Marc gave me the wood this summer and the materials were here waiting for the build.

We managed to get most of the greenhouse framed in. I was putting in blocking and framing on one side while Marc framed in the side windows and framing on the other side.

We worked on the rafters as well. We got all but one finished when we both agreed that we were too exhausted to continue after a ten hour work day. We only took a half hour lunch break and just blasted through.

I cant wait to get the off grid greenhouse fully built. I can just imagine sitting in there in our T-Shirts sipping a cup of tea and watching the snow fall outside.
