Good Homestead Solar ~ Prepping Greenhouse Project & More

I am getting materials ready for the next construction phase of our off grid greenhouse. We are still harvesting food from our garden. A really cool package arrived.

Marc is coming back to help us build the off grid greenhouse. We hope to provide vegetables and edible greens all year round so that we can have fresh foods and nutrients during the cold winter months.

The greenhouse will have a huge south facing wall of glass with half glass walls on the sides and heavily insulated north side. The greenhouse is being built using reclaimed 2x6 lumber. This will give us the ability to use R19 insulation in the back North walls of the greenhouse.

The old Sears potbelly wood stove which is actually a wood burning water heater will be used to keep the greenhouse warm in winter. I plan to have the wood stove heat up large 55 gallon drums of water which will provide a heat mass all night and keep the greenhouse temperatures well above freezing during the cold winter months.

I spent some time laying out all the windows for the job. That is when I discovered that some of the windows are not the same size. I have four of the larger window frames. Then I have one a bit smaller. And three a little smaller yet. But I figure we can make this work anyway.

I have a screen door with two windows and a removable screen which will be used as the main door for our greenhouse.

I also have a very large glass window with matching screen which we can use on the side of the greenhouse.

Bandana Gramma from YouTube sent us a really cool gift which gives us a lot of laughs. It is the family dog house with our names in it. Each person has a dog with his/her name on it. The person who causes trouble on this day goes into the dog house. Melanie and I are having a lot of laughs with this. She immediately put it up on the kitchen wall so that she can see it as she plans her day.

We harvested our pumpkins to keep them from being destroyed by chipmunks. They have destroyed the largest pumpkin which became chicken food. I have four pumpkins which we can still use. We will process and can them for later pumpkin pie and soup this winter.

We are still harvesting some foods from our garden even this late in the year. Green beans and tomatoes are still heavily producing food for us.

Thanks for watching. Please Subscribe & follow my daily videos.
