Making Recycled Greenhouse Rafter Cross Bracing

Now that we have a fully framed in greenhouse just waiting for the roof and windows I got right to work the next morning and put in the cross bracing for the roofing.

I want to get the off grid greenhouse closed in before the deep freeze sets in and kills all our garden plants.

Melanie is currently pulling out some of our favorite garden vegetable plants and herbs and putting them into pots for the greenhouse.

This will be a heated winter greenhouse so that we can have fresh vegetables and greens all year. For this reason the North side of the greenhouse will be insulated and sealed off from the cold winter weather. This will help retain some of the heat during the harsh winter nights.

I got the generator running and used the chop saw to cut 30 boards to put in between the rafters as cross bracing. These will keep the rafters from twisting and also provide support for the roofing material.

I put one row in the middle where the plastic and metal roofing will meet. Then two more rows, one each under the plastic roofing and metal roofing.

Stay tuned for part two of todays work
