Putting Roof & Sheathing On Our Winter Greenhouse

I am already putting the roofing materials on our off grid winter greenhouse. We have a freeze coming so we want to get our vegetables inside before we lose them all.

We still have some plants that survived the last light freeze. But Tuesday night a deep freeze is coming and we want to save what we can.

The greenhouse is going to help us keep growing vegetables and herbs through the entire year. This includes the harsh cold winter months.

So I am in a hurry to get this greenhouse closed off and get our plants inside. I can insulate the north walls with my next pay check. We will have a month before it really gets bad around here.

I started working on the sheathing on the greenhouse to get it all shored up and stable. When I had the side and back walls closed in then I moved on to the roof.

I have some swimming pool liner in a roll that John gave me a while back. I went out and cut two 12 foot long pieces and dragged them over with a wagon to the greenhouse.

It was quite a task getting a roll of metal on the roof and laid out flat in the opposite direction that it wanted to go. But eventually I got it in place.

I screwed the metal roofing sheets on and then moved to the PVC roofing.

I have some clear PVC roofing that is made to be used in greenhouses. This is supposed to hold up to heat and sunlight for years to come.

I am insulating the North side of the roof but leaving the South side clear to allow more sunlight to enter the greenhouse.

The PVC roofing went on quite easily.
