Work On Off Grid Greenhouse Continues & Melanies Crafts

Marc from YouTube came over again and we worked on the greenhouse some more. We are building a greenhouse using all recycled materials. The windows on the front of the greenhouse are all matching which will make this a nice looking greenhouse.

We worked about 7 hours on the project before Marc had to leave for the day. It was a full day of work anyway.

We got the I beams for the bottom of the two side walls built and then we lifted up the rear wall. Next we squared and plumbed everything nicely.

The next project was to put in a nailer on all four corners of the greenhouse to hold the top plate for the side walls.

The top plate was a double 2x6 for strength. These span the entire distance from front to back, tying in the two walls.

We were now able to frame in one of the side windows on our greenhouse. I have two matching 6 foot tall windows for the east and west sides. It really felt good to have the first window framed in.

Next we worked on framing in the front windows of our greenhouse. We have about 8 ft of windows for the front from top to bottom and the span will be about 12 feet from side to side. This should provide us with plenty of winter sunlight for warmth and growth of our vegetables.

We managed to get the top four windows framed in before Marc had to leave. The top windows are all matching but the bottom ones are different sizes so we will have to come back to those.

Marc had given Melanie a sewing machine which he did not need and she spent the entire day sewing. First she practiced for a while on sewing techniques and the different stitching patterns of the machine. Then she got to work sewing new pillow cases using scraps of cloth.

She was so happy!! Thank you Marc.

Melanie kept us fueled up while we worked by bringing us some fine snacks. She made muffins using pumpkin that we harvested from our own garden. They were so good!!!
