Attempt To Run Freezer On Off Grid Solar Power

It turned out to be a sunny day so I decided to try running the freezer on our off grid solar power. I put blocking in between the water shed rafters. And I sealed off the pallet wood goat stall walls for winter.

The thermometers in the off grid greenhouse have not been working properly. I found out that they all work on the same transmitter frequency so two of them are receiving the same signal and ignoring the one that is farther away.

I pulled out the batteries on the transmitter in the off grid water and battery shed so that the receivers would sense the transmitter in our winter greenhouse instead.

But they were not showing the proper temperature even now. I am not pleased with the accu rite wireless thermometers right now.

It has been a nice sunny day and we have a little bit of extra power that we have not been using. Deer season is coming soon and I want to have a freezer for our meat. I am going to try to run the freezer on our solar power.

I had Chris on standby holding the power plug while I watched the power in the off grid battery and water shed.

Chris plugged in the freezer and nothing really happened. Then the small inverter started to beep. The startup power from the freezer was too much for the 600 watt inverter.

So I turned on the bigger 1500 watt inverter and plugged the freezer into that. It worked fine.

I kept checking the freezer and battery power all day to monitor the situation. The freezer was cycling on and off after a while which means it was working fine.

Then I put two half gallons of water into the freezer to hold the cold and test the freezer out properly. They were starting to freeze a couple hours later.

I put blocking in between the rafters on the solar battery shed. This will stop the wind from simply blowing through and taking away all the heat from our off grid shed. Now I can insulate the ceiling and save heat even better.

I also had Chris help me put up two rows of sheet metal on the goat shed. This will stop wind from blowing through and give them better shelter for winter.
