Episode 4, Series Two: "BILL C11 : SILENCING THE PEOPLE"

This episode is the FOURTH instalment of Series Two of our online weekly show "What That Means Is". With you hosts, Rosalie Drysdale, Chris Riddell and Ken Drysdale.

Did you know that the Canadian Government is currently in the process of re-writing the Canadian Broadcasting Act?

The original Act was put in place in 1991 and was intended to define the policy of the Government related to Broadcasters, and to define the role of the CRTC.

This was at a time when there was no Internet Broadcasting and no Social Media platforms (like we see today) available on the internet. In addition, in 1991 it took huge financial investments to make media content and to broadcast it to Canadians.

So the genesis of the Broadcasting Act was to support and regulate huge often multinational broadcasters operating in Canada.

The Broadcasting Act set up policies concerning Canadian Content, Licensing, Regulations, Language Requirements, etc., etc.

Fast forward to 2023 some 32 years later, the world has changed enormously. Main Stream Media around the world have taken on the role of propagandists for the Government, and they find themselves to be failing enterprises.

Much of this failing is of their own doing, for not keeping up with the time and for producing content that few people want to consume.

So the intent of Bill C11 was to bring Internet Social Media Producers into the regulation of the Government and the CRTC.

The new regulations, as yet to be developed by the CRTC (which is an appointed group), will now regulate small content providers such as this channel.

The CRTC will be able to write very specific regulations to essentially wipe out private content creators, and continue to prop up the government subsidized legacy media.

This episode provides you with some of the facts, and gives you information for further review, so you are aware of wha tis going on.

As usual, you decide, you do your own research, make up your own mind.
