Blaming white supremacy for Tyre Nichols’ death is perverse

There’s nothing white supremacy can’t do.

It is supposedly so pervasive and powerful that it can cause black men to sign up to serve as police officers in a majority-black city and beat up a black arrestee.

It is to the contemporary left what capital was to Marx, sex was to Freud and gravity was to Newton. It is the “King Charles head” of American public life — a matter of obsession that comes up in debates and contexts where it has no possible relevance.

Joe Biden mocked for shooting down potential $12 hobby balloon

Republicans, conservatives and others have mocked the Biden administration’s decision to use a $400,000 missile to shoot down what may turn out to be a $12 hobby balloon last weekend, with some calling it an expensive way to eliminate a “kids’ science project.”

The Northern Illinois Bottlecap Balloon Brigade told Aviation Week that one of its tracked balloons vanished on Feb. 11 — around the same time President Biden gave orders to shoot down a mystery object over Canada’s Yukon Territory.

380 migrants redirected elsewhere in Canada, Quebec says

Nearly 400 migrants who passed through Roxham Road on Saturday and Sunday were redirected to other Canadian provinces, Quebec Immigration Minister Christine Fréchette said Tuesday.

"We are starting to see results," she said in a press scrum. "We're very happy with that, we hope it will continue over time and that this will be the new approach to border management."

François Legault's government has been hammering away for months that Quebec's capacity to receive immigrants has been reached and even exceeded.

Rainbow license plate may be retired next year

The rainbow design on Hawaii’s license plates is “nearing the end of its lifecycle,” according to a release from Honolulu’s Department of Customer Services. However, no changes will take place before 2024.

Hawaii has featured a rainbow on its license plates since 1991.

Department of Customer Services Director Kim Hashiro said in a news release that “there isn’t an urgent need for new design options for the Hawaii license plate, and no change to the current plate will happen at any point during the 2023 calendar year.”
