Tableau basics. Dimensions and Measures. This video explains the difference between tableau dimensions and measures. What is the GREEN Pill vs the BLUE PILL?
What are dimensions and measures in Tableau?
A dimension is an attribute or property of an entire set, and a measure is a value associated with a group of data. In most cases a tableau dimension is organized into logical groups that relates together or describes a common theme.
Dimensions contain qualitative values (such as names, dates, or geographical data). You can use dimensions to categorize, segment, and reveal the details in your data. Dimensions affect the level of detail in the view.
Measures contain numeric, quantitative values that you can measure. Measures can be aggregated. When you drag a measure into the view, Tableau applies an aggregation to that measure (by default).
