The head of the Federal Military Government Major General Yakubu Gowon declared a "police action" and fighting began on July 6th 1967.

The newsreel also includes footage of the Biafran leader Emeka Ojukwu at a press conference in the city of Enugu. Ojuwku had been a Lt. Colonel in the Nigerian Army until his formal dismissal on July 5th 1967, the day before the official commencement of the Nigerian Civil War.
