Happy Birthday Sophie!

On a cold morning in April, a mama opossum made a fatal calculation in crossing the road and ended up losing her life and the lives of all of her babies that were being carried on her back. One little tiny princess, still on the weakest teat and not yet strong enough to venture about like her siblings remained alive and hopeful in her mother's pouch. I was granted the profound gift of discovering her while moving the heart-breaking carnage off the road. What a sweet little blessing Sophie has been. Not only a lesson to me on the merits and beauty of our only marsupial, but also to so many more who took an interest in her story. This month marks the completion of her first year earth-side! Happy Birthday Sophie!
