Charlie Chaplin's classic film "The Kid" is a heartwarming story about an orphaned child and his tramp guardian, played by Charlie. At one point in the film, Chaplin’s character saves little Scraps from being pulled onto a street-sweeper wagon. Scraps, who is anything but scrap herself, had unknowingly wandered onto the man-made vehicle and was nearly pulled away. Charlie quickly whisked her away to safety with his trademark bumbling grace as only he could do. This scene of Chaplin’s showmanship highlights how he wasn't just “the Little Tramp” on camera—he was also a loved and respected man off screen whose humour brought joy and relief to many.
