If you want to get the core involved properly to save your neck and your back, make sure you find length through the spine, push out of your shoulder, shoulder is either above or behind the wrist (I have a video as to why I don't remcommend hinging forward); draw the belly button up and pull up with the upper back at the shoulder blade, hand goes behind the armpit/boob not inline with it.
