This here gem of a vid offers a great deal of long-lasting information on the history of government intervention in the railroad market and how political influence and graft have skewed — and continue to skew — the decisions rail owners and train operators make. In it, I go back to the 1860s and touch on issues such as govt land grants, so-called “regulations” the interstate highway system and how that harmed or helped rail and local figures who had political connections, and more. We hit on the Sherman Antitrust fraud, and then we dive into an extended section of an excellent discussion of the East Palestine, Ohio derailment, a discussion offered by The Mises Institute that helps clarify the unintended consequences of government intervention, even for things like “safety standards” — a euphemism for government force and threats.
I hope you will visit the Mises team at www.mises.org and compliment Ryan McMaken and Tho Bishop for their work! Visit me at the Liberty Conspiracy Live show each weeknight from 6 to 7:30 eastern time on ROKFIN!
