Do not REST do your best

Have you achieved your best in life? If yes, no need to read further. Go to sleep and rest.

If you have not lived your best life yet, do not rest. Instead of relaxing, do your best.

While going through the life, we often become very lazy. We just do our routine work, eat, rest and sleep. Most of our routine work is a job that you are doing just for the sake of your living. We never feel enough motivated to do anything extra for our life. We always forget that we have some dreams to work on.

Ben Lionel Scott

Ask any worker. What do you do after your regular job?

Ask any woman in the house. What do you do after your daily home tasks?

Ask any student. What do you do at home after your school homework?

Ask all of them, what do you do on the weekend or vacations. Most of them will say, “I do enjoy a bit and take rest”. Enjoyment is great. As Bertrand Russell quoted,

“The time you enjoy wasting is not wasted time”.

After all, what is the use of living if we do not enjoy.

I am going to talk about the other thing called “rest” or “relaxation”. Why we need rest? How much we need to relax. Let us see.

Why we need rest?

At the end of the day, each of us wants to relax. But how much? It is good to have a short break between the work to feel refreshed and energized. It is all right to relax for half or an hour after finishing your day job. It is perfectly fine to enjoy a movie or a trip on the weekend. But what do you do with the rest of your time. Yeah I know. You spent it watching TV all day. You do the rest and relax.

“Activity and rest are two vital aspects of life. To find a balance in them is a skill in itself. Wisdom is knowing when to have rest, when to have activity, and how much of each to have. Finding them in each other

Today you are wasting your time just like that. You think you deserve that. You are expecting that tomorrow will bring you more time to work on your dream projects. Let me remind you my friend, you will have more responsibilities with the time as well.

Do you rest for your body?

In older days, most of our daily work involved physical activities. Today, there are machines all around us. Our physical effort so much reduced by automatic technology. Therefore, I believe that our body never wants that much rest. Unfortunately, most of us spent a full day of weekend for rest. We become addicted to rest because we repeatedly do that. Change it; it is all about the habit.

Do you rest for your mind?

It is important to give rest to your mind. Today, most of our work involves mind power rather than our physical power. So relax for a while, but again do not overdo it. Set a limited time to relax. You know very well, if you set your mind free for a long time, it brings many thoughts. Most of these thoughts are about the past or future, which brings tension and anxiety.

You know many people rest all day long and still feel tired. Do something you love and you never feel tired. Seize the day.

Are you short of time?

We always make excuses that we do not have much time to do something extraordinary in life. Let me ask you one thing. What do you do when got little time after your work? We all got little pieces of time every day. Most of us waste it doing nothing and call it “Rest”.

What will “rest” bring you at the end of life?

Suppose. Today, you have nothing to do. Therefore, you are doing the rest. You will feel good while resting. But In the end of your life, do you remember any of your resting day. No. You will remember only days in which you have done something. You will remember the days that changed your life. You will remember the days when you changed someone’s life.

How to start doing your Best:

If you want to change your habit, you need to change your thinking first. You think you are nothing in this world and that is why, “Nothing in the world is more common than unsuccessful people with talent.”

It is our beliefs that limit us. Look at the history of the great people. They have not given special powers. They did not have 48 hours a day. They did not have two brains. Neither had they had four hands. Nevertheless, they did their best because they did not rest. It was the faith of our ancestors that get them going and made them great.

So next time when someone asks you, “What do you do at the weekend?” Never say, “I just do the rest.” Instead, say, “I do my best.”

Be passionate about doing your best in life. Instead of relaxing whole time, work on yourself. Do something for the others. Leave a more beautiful world. Do not stop until you achieve everything you truly want in life.

“There’ll be plenty of time to rest in the grave.” ~ Quoted in D MacHale,
