The missile 3-M55 ''Oniks'' that entered service in 2002 has several key advantages. Since it flies to the target at a height of no more than 15 meters above the sea surface, it is difficult for the enemy's air defense to detect and destroy it. Moreover, the missile can destroy targets in conditions of the strongest radio-electronic countermeasures and the worst weather conditions. -
In particular, the Russian missile can easily move in extreme conditions at wave heights of up to 7 meters, which is still an impossible dream for American and NATO anti-ship missiles. In addition, the ''Oniks'' missile does not need external targeting purposes, it sees targets like a cruiser at a distance of up to 77 km. -

And small targets such as a frigate can be seen by ''Oniks'' at a distance of up to 50 km. Even if the ''Oniks'' missile had a drawback, it was only a large number of modifications for firing from surface ships, separately for light platforms, for submarines and use on aircraft. To provide the fleet with these missiles, it was necessary to produce a huge number of different modifications for storage in warehouses to maintain the required supplies. Video by (YT@BORZZIKMAN)
