Hungry lions getting meat. AFRICA

Africa is home to many wild animals, including the majestic lion, who roam the savanna in search of sustenance. Hungry lions spend their days pursuing prey with great enthusiasm, displaying the power and strength of their up to four hundred-pound physiques. The big cats are capable of bringing down large prey, such as the elephant, the zebra, and the buffalo, using their teeth and claws. While these animals provide the lion with a hefty meal, the meals may last for only so long, since these large animals can provide enough meat to feed a pride for days, even weeks.

When the big cats are occasionally left hungry, they must consume more accessible sources of sustenance, such as smaller antelopes, baboon, and ant eaters. Smaller and more solitary prey provide the lion with dining opportunities, but not enough to satisfy their lion-sized appetites. To satisfy a pride’s need for ample and consistent nutrition, Africa’s lions have learned a unique method of obtaining the proper nourishment: scavenging.
