VCV Eurorack Ambient | 3x Turing Machines, OCHD, Cs-L, Troika, Chronoblob 2, Plaits & Stages

This time I treated myself with three Turing Machines using the free VCV Rack software, since I don't own a single one of them and wanted more than one. I was amazed by the amount of harmony that was unleashed. I thought I could simplify such a patch with having a single Turing Machine, split its outputs and attenuate or invert the signals and feed them into different quantizers, but when I tried, I was disappointed. I didn't have the same amount of freedom over each melodies.

With three Turing Machines, I can easily set the amount of notes I want per instruments and can lock a sequence individually to detach it from the other random melodies. That way, I can for example make the bass less prominent by making it random while I lock the sequence of another voice to to make it the center of attention. A repeated melody catches the attention when it's among voices on random harmonies. After that, it's a question of making it a bit more present in the mix by using a filter, changing the octaves, or increasing the volume. I can apply this principle back and forth between the voices, creating a lot of harmonious movements in the melodies, creating a different story with a different feeling. I also stop the master clock before changing the tempo to introduce a slower or faster tempo. Then I start the master clock again to launch an ambience that feels totally different.

If you've seen my previous video using VCV, you'll find that I used a very similar patching approach. There's also a lot of modulation going on here with two OCHDs. I use a lot of Chronoblob 2 to create rhythms in the delay as I feed different clock signals into my chains of two Chronoblob 2 creating feedback that don't happen at the same time, the first one also feeding the second one.
