Ohio Governor Mike DeWine gave an update on Tuesday, February 14, in Columbus, Ohio, on the derailment of a train carrying toxic chemicals in East Palestine on February 3rd. The derailment caused a large fire that prompted authorities to order evacuations and carry out a controlled release of toxic chemicals, including vinyl chloride, that were being transported. Residents of East Palestine were given the all-clear to return home after they were evacuated following the toxic chemical spill. Even as the public was given the all-clear to return home, health and environmental concerns remain after animals were found dead following the disaster. Governor DeWine said that he has talked to President Joe Biden who assured him that the federal government would work with state officials while working to resolve the incident.
