WHO 'urgent' meeting over outbreak of Marburg virus

The WHO announced that it held an emergency meeting of the Marburg virus vaccine consortium (MARVAC) on Tuesday. The meeting was also meant to review its protocol after the Marburg virus outbreak in Equatorial Guinea.

MARVAC includes leaders in the field of vaccine research and development, working together to develop vaccines against the disease

As of Monday, 9 people have succumbed to the virus and there are 16 other suspected cases. The virus which is considered to be a cousin ..

While there are no vaccines or antiviral treatments approved to treat the virus so far, rehydration with oral or intravenous fluids, and treatment of specific symptoms, improves chances of survival.
