oundation Cigars came into the PCA 2022 cigar trade show with a bang. They released a new cigar line called the Olmec in both a claro and maduro wrapper. The Olmec is named after an ancient Mesoamerican civilization that predates the Aztec and Mayans in what is now Mexico. They inhabited the areas of Veracruz, Tabasco, and San Andres where the Mexican San Andres tobacco is cultivated. Foundation used a San Andres Negro wrapper that was slowly fermented at a low temperature to help preserve the natural oils in the tobacco. The Nicaraguan tobacco fillers were bale aged for three years before reaching the factory. The Olmec was released in 5 sizes: double corona, grande, toro, robusto, and corona gorda. Today I’m reviewing the corona gorda.
