Samuel Colt was born into a wealthy family in Hartford, Connecticut in 1814 and showed an early interest in mechanics and machinery. As a young man, he worked as a sailor, and it was during his time at sea that he first began to conceive of the idea for a revolver. The Colt 45 was an amazing gun.
