Writer and director M.J. Basset recently revealed on Instagram that she would is now writing and directing the in-development Red Sonja feature film. The implication of that would be that the previously announced writer and director, Tasha Huo and Joey Soloway respectively, are no longer involved; and neither is Hannah John-Kamen, their choice for Red Sonja herself. In other words, production has once again been reset, and started over under a new vision.

But is the shift from Soloway to Basset a step in the right or wrong direction, and could the Basset iteration of Red Sonja succeed where all previous iterations failed, and actually end up getting made?

@AndreEinherjar will be exploring that in this editorial, as he gives his take on why the previous team left, why hiring M.J. Bassett is perhaps the best move this production has done for a very, very long time; and finally, if the movie might actually happen this time.
