What Most People Dont Know about psychological injury
Psychological injury is something that is often forgotten or misunderstood. While physical injuries are obvious and easy to see, mental injuries can be just as or even more debilitating. But even though they hurt, mental injuries aren't always taken as seriously as physical ones. In this video, we'll talk about what most people don't know about psychological injury and why it's time to start paying attention.
First, let's talk about what we mean by "psychological injury." Psychological injury is any damage to a person's mental or emotional health, usually caused by something traumatic. This can include anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and other conditions related to mental health. Unlike physical injuries, mental injuries don't always show up right away. This makes them hard to spot and diagnose.
One of the biggest myths about psychological injury is that it only happens to people who have been through very bad things, like soldiers who have been in combat or people who have lived through a natural disaster. But any traumatic event, no matter how small or insignificant it may seem, can cause psychological damage. For example, a psychological injury can be caused by a car accident, the death of a loved one, or even bullying.
Another common misunderstanding is that mental injury is a sign of personal weakness or failure. People with psychological injury are often shamed and blamed for their problems, but psychological injury is a normal response to unusual situations. It's time for our workplaces to start treating mental health like it's as important as physical health.
The effects of a mental injury can be far-reaching and last for a long time. It can cause a wide range of physical, emotional, and behavioral problems, like chronic pain, insomnia, drug abuse, and being alone. In the worst cases, mental injury can even cause people to suicide.
One of the hardest things about dealing with mental injury is that it doesn't always get diagnosed or treated. Many people with psychological injuries don't want to get help, either because they are afraid of being judged or because they don't think their problems are bad enough to need help. This can cause a cycle of neglect in which the person keeps suffering and their condition gets worse over time.
So, what can be done to help people who have been mentally hurt? The first step is to get people to understand that psychological injury is a real thing. This means getting rid of the negative stereotypes and false beliefs about mental health and making it clear that asking for help is a sign of strength, not weakness.
It's also important for society to put the needs of people who have been mentally hurt at the top of the list. This means giving people and families who have been hurt mentally access to good mental health care, as well as resources and help.
In the end, mental injury is a serious problem that is often misunderstood and ignored. It's time for workplaces to start taking mental health as seriously as physical health and give people with psychological injuries the help and resources they need.
