The NEW MDS: Episode #5: OBESITY: Many have not moved out of the outdated medical mantra that obese individuals are lazy and overeat. Nothing could be further from the truth.

The hidden truth is that many medical practitioners are undernourished with nutritional knowledge and overfed with drug information.

Obesity rates are soaring in adults, children, and even our pets. Childhood obesity is now an epidemic, reported to affect 20% of US kids aged 2-19 years old. Worldwide, 603.7 million adults are obese.

Substantial evidence has emerged over the last few decades that exposure to endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) is connected to obesity and obesity-related metabolic diseases.

There are many sources of EDCs, now labeled ‘obesogens’, from air pollution, contaminated foods, cookware/household items, and even breastmilk. Two classes of the biggest contributors are bisphenols and phthalates, both used in the plastics industry, and they are ubiquitous in the environment.

The New MDS takes on this present pandemic, brought to the forefront by the American Academy of Pediatrics’ (AAP) recent announcement that drugs and surgery were acceptable alternatives for children over 12 years old dealing with obesity. Listen to moms, scientists, and doctors, and learn about the science behind obesity, shedding a light on the ABCs of EDCs as well as how to help those dealing with this disorder.
