Is there is an immigration investor program for Canada and is it possible to obtain permanent residency (and free health care!) by investing in a Canadian business? The answer is yes, although details on this program are not easy to find. https://www.franchise.city/canada-pnp

If you were to Google "immigrate to Canada with an investment" today, this is what you would find. The federal Immigrant Investor Program is closed. We’re no longer accepting applications for this program.

On June 19, 2014, Bill C-31 became law – archived, terminating applications still in the backlog of the federal Immigrant Investor Program and Entrepreneur Program. If you applied for this program We terminated your application. We’ll return your fees without interest after you send us your form.

The good news is that while the federal investor program is in fact closed as we see here, there are other ways through Provincial nomination programs to immigrate to Canada through a business investment, and eventually become become a permanent resident.

The Canadian Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) provides the opportunity for qualified individuals to obtain permanent residency in Canada. Canada is composed of ten provinces and three territories and each Province offers distinct programs, called “streams” that target specific groups including students, business people, skilled and semi-skilled workers. More than 200,000 people are expected to obtain permanent residence through a PNP over the next two years.

Here at Franchise City we focus exclusively on the entrepreneur/ investor stream. We work with qualified investors with aspirations to move to Canada and help align their skills and background with successful franchises that work with non-residents. While not all franchise are suitable for the program, and not all will work with non -residents, we have agreements with many franchises that are ideally suited to the program requirements.

The Provincial Nominee Program carries substantial benefits and unlike similar investment visas found in the USA, such as the E-2 visa program, the PNP program does not require applicants to originate from a specific country. In fact, citizens from all countries are welcome to apply. So while residents of India for example are not eligible for the E-2 visa in the USA, they are certainly eligible for the PNP program. As are residents from China and many other countries currently ineligible for the E-2. Also unlike the E-2 visa which is only a temporary visa, the PNP can lead to Canadian permanent residence and all benefits including access to government sponsored, or as we residents prefer to call it - free health care.

Each province is responsible for the management of their own PNP program and there are varying financial and background requirements for each. Your Franchise City consultant along with your immigration specialist can assist you in determining the most suitable province based on your unique business and lifestyle goals. Currently the lowest investment amount is $150,000 with a $600,000 net worth minimum in the province of Nova Scotia, and the Province of Manitoba outside the city of Winnipeg also has a $150,000 investment. Larger provinces carry larger investment minimums in Toronto for example you must possess a minimum net worth of 1.8 million and invest a minimum of 1 million dollars to qualify. All provinces also require a medical exam, police check and verification your funds were legally obtained.

There are number of options available to the investor in terms of how they apply. Applications can be started in your country of origin, or a work permit can be obtained and the investor can potentially reside in Canada while they wait. There are several stages involved including obtaining your nomination, to finally achieving your permanent residency. We have partnered with highly skilled Canadian immigration experts who are available to help guide you through the process.
