4,300-Year-Old Tombs Unearthed In Egypt

A team of Egyptian archaeologists has uncovered a series of ancient tombs thought to be up to 4,300 years old. The four graves were discovered at an ancient burial ground in Saqqara, 30 km south of Cairo.

Archaeologists believe the most important belonged to Khnumdjedef, a priest at the Una’s pyramid complex, dating back to 2,686 BC. The excavation team also unearthed a trove of life-sized statues, amulets, and everyday objects like drinking vessels inside the tombs.

Perhaps the most important find was that of a 4,300-year-old mummy, thought to be a man named Hekashepes, wrapped in gold leaf inside a limestone sarcophagus 15 meters underground and remarkably well preserved. Dr. Zahi Hawass, director of the excavation team, described the haul as “major important discoveries." (RT)
