Penguins information:

Penguins are an amazing group of semi aquatic, flightless birds living almost exclusively in the southern hemisphere and are highly adapted to life in the cold water.

Penguins are a long-lived species, which come back to the land for breeding in dense colonies, lay one or two eggs, and take several months to raise their chicks. Most penguins feed on krill, fish, and squid, caught while swimming underwater. The emperor penguin is the only species to breed during the harsh Antarctic winter, on sea ice. Penguin can dive at incredible depth.

Penguins are extremely sensitive to climate change. The International Union for Conservation of Nature has listed 70% of the 17 penguin species as vulnerable or endangered, and the impact of climate on the food web and habitat is one of the most commonly suggested causes of population decline.
In the middle of the Antarctic Ocean, an entire mountain range arises from the water: South Georgia, the nursery of the Antarctic. Hundreds of thousands of penguins, elephant seals, fur seals and their young overcrowd the beaches. The rough weather and the extremely difficult access to the island cause filmmaking to be an endeavor requiring much of the film crew around Roland Gockel and Rosie Koch and the state of the art cameras. A lot of patience and sensitivity over a period spanning some five years now offers unknown and poignant insights into the life of the King Penguins on South Georgia Island.
