A NewsNation reporter, Evan Lambert, was arrested while covering a news conference about a train derailment in Ohio. The incident was recorded by the news network, who reported that Lambert was charged with trespassing and resisting arrest. After his release, Lambert stated that he was fine but it was important that journalists not be arrested while doing their job. Ohio Governor Mike DeWine stated that he did not authorize the arrest and that reporters have the right to report during news conferences. The arrest could still result in charges of disorderly conduct and criminal trespassing.

We got a phone call from someone who had to evacuate because of this East Palestine Ohio train wreck. and I believe we've clipped it and posted it. and if you have the opportunity to go listen to it it's worth listening to. because these folks didn't know what was going on for 24 hours really. and this stuff burning is highly toxic. and it apparently also gathers in the basements of people's homes. and yeah that was the Striking detail from that caller saying they were checking people's basements for that stuff. so it's safe to go down there. right it seeps into the soil. it literally just goes into the homes and because it's a heavy gas it just sort of hangs out in the basement and it's highly toxic. so people can't go home and at home and they're not getting many questions answered. Apparently, it took, like I said, almost 24 hours for the train company to know how many cars were full of this stuff and exactly what it was. now whether they knew it or not or didn't just tell people or not in some ways both scenarios are equally as bad. These companies are understaffed. we know that. There's a story out there now where you know when we've talked about this in the context of the near strike that was going to take place with these workers on these carriers. They want more Staffing. they were going to go on strike not just about pay it was Staffing. At the end of the day, it was Staffing. the way that it was presented was we needed to pay. We need sick leaves. we need not just pay sick leaves. We need sick days. that we don't get punished for and possibly fired for that was basically it and the subtext of that is they gotta hire more people. yeah, they want to make this they want to run these trains with fewer and fewer people. and longer and longer trains. Which is part of the process.
