OK if they are shooting these down to collect intel on them is bowing them up with a missile and having them fall 40000 feet really the best solution? surely they have the tech to secure a giant floating balloon load it with balast and bring ot down for a soft landing.

Also it is interesting that the Canadian airforce relied on the USAF to intercept a presumed balloon and shootnitndown. Is it true that Canada doesnt have the capability to shoot down baloons. I recall these sprts pf baloons were used for remote communications services like internet and radio in the North. In all this it seems sad that these unknown orogin objects are being destroyed rather than secured amd taken for non destructive analysis until their origin and purpose can be determined. it seems a massive intelligence failure by the us and a failure of capability by the us and canada to be unable to secure s baloon floating at 40000 feet or fsiling that the signint cability to use cyber forces to gain command navigation if it was a drone to bring the object down for a soft landing. while thr press conferences appear tough talk on securing the skies the actual waste of resources and failure of capacity on these rakedown operations seems nothing short of lazy operational planning and demonstrating major operational capabilities are lacking such as high altitude intercept.
