Looks can be deceiving. A lot of ignorant and narcissistic humans like to put words in the mouths of others. They assume people want attention because they look a certain way. While some may want attention there are plenty who don't and to generalize is a petty way of justifying giving attention to people who don't want it, or want it. If you are annoyed about how others want attention, the intelligent thing to do is to not give them any at all.
