20220811 Why Exercise? Do it for You.

In August I was thinking about why I am getting back in shape, why I exercise daily, why I'm pushing myself to be better. Most of the time the answer is, "For my family."

I exercise to keep up with my kids, especially number three, who is a bundle of energy, in constant motion.

I also exercise for health, to be strong and healthy, to make sure I stay fit and healthy enough, to last as long as they need me.

But, sometimes you just need to do it for you.

One weekend the wife and kiddoes were away so I went out for a kayak. This is a normal activity for me, but I usually go for an hour, two at most.

That weekend I spent almost 7 hours on the river paddling, portaging and fishing. It was an absolutely wonderful day, and I was able to go that long, and that hard, without fear that I wouldn't be able to make it back upstream, because I am in the physical shape to be able to do it.

Even better, the next day, while my muscles knew they had been worked, I wasn't particularly sore. My recovery is coming back with my fitness level.
